Dr. Barbra Teater is a Professor of Social Work at the City University of New York (CUNY), was a Visiting Scholar at Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland (2020-2023), and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Gondar in Ethiopia. She is the Executive Officer of the PhD Program in Social Welfare at The Graduate Center and the Chair of the Department of Social Work at the College of Staten Island.
Barbra started her experience in social work academia in 2004. In her tenure as an academic, she spent eight years in England at the University of Bath and University of Bristol before returning to the US to work at the City University of New York.
Barbra’s research interests include social workers’ use of theories and methods in practice, social work education, and aging and ageism. Barbra has over 75 published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and is the author of seven books, including one that is in its 4th edition.
Barbra is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) providing telehealth mental health therapy.
Barbra is currently accepting clients for telehealth mental health therapy, PhD students, speaking engagements, and opportunities for research collaborations.
Barbra lives in New York City. When she is not working, you can find her running in Central Park or picnicking and playing in one of NYC’s playgrounds or parks with her 6-year-old son.
